SAMPE UK & Ireland Chapter's annual seminar took place on 23 February 2017 at Cranfield University.

The theme of the Seminar was: Maximising Composite Value by Innovation.

The format of the event will be as recent years: a one day event with high quality invited presentations coupled with a table top exhibition.

Master Class on Additive Technology

The SAMPE Master Class on Additive Manufacturing held on the 20 October at the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), situated just north of Coventry at Ansty Park.

We’re an excellent programme,the panel of speakers includes recognised experts of Additive Manufacturing technology making the Master Class an essential meeting if you need to understand current Additive Manufacturing technology, its applications and its future potential.

Members only visit to Solvay Applications Centre

We have been invited to a half day visit to the Solvay Applications Centre in Heanor.

This is a members-only event and will be a great opportunity for attendees to witness the cutting edge materials and processes of one of the world’s leaders in the composites industry.

It will include several demonstrations and this video gives insight into the work of the Applications Centre.

The programme for the visit is as follows:

  • 1100: arrive, safety inductions/equipping with PPE
  • 1115: brief presentation from Cytec-Solvay on the App Centre
  • 1130: tour of the App Centre including demonstrations
  • 1315: lunch, networking and discussion
  • 1430: close

There are several stipulations as follows:

  • Members will need to produce Government issued photo ID (ie passport or driving license) to join this meeting.
  • PPE will be necessary and members should bring safety shoes/boots and glasses, as Solvay do not have enough for everyone.
  • Solvay reserve the right to refuse attendance on commercial sensitivity grounds

The visit is limited to 15 members and will be on a first come basis. There is no charge for this visit.

Members will need to book a place for this visit before 10 June by emailing Trevor Cook.

2016 Student Seminar

Our next event is the 2016 Student Seminar being held at new IOM3 building, London on the 16th June, 2016.

We are selecting 2 postgraduate students to represent the UK & Ireland Chapter at the student event which runs alongside the SAMPE Europe Conference in in September 2016.

At the Student Seminar, the students present their research to a panel of experts who will select the students to represent the Chapter at Liege, Belgium (all expenses paid).

Breakthrough Technologies for Advanced Composites Manufacturing

The SAMPE UK & Ireland Chapter 2016 Seminar & SME Table Top Exhibition was held on Thursday 25 February at The National College for Teaching and Learning, University of Nottingham.

This year we decided to feature “Breakthrough Technologies” for Advanced Composites manufacturing. These breakthrough advances do not occur overnight. Long term development programmes for materials and processes have resulted in methods and products offering high performance cost effective solutions.

This year the event was sponsored by TenCate Advanced Composites Ltd and supported by the University of Nottingham.

The programme included presentations from key companies such as ACCIS, Eurocarbon, Fokker, GE Aviation, Rolls-Royce and sponsors TenCate Advanced Composites Ltd and is now available here.

The seminar was well attended by around 100 delegates with 20 companies/institutions exhibiting. The full list of exhibitors is included our report.
