2015 Student Seminar

Our next event is the 2015 Student Seminar being held at IOM3 on the 30th April, 2015. We are selecting 2 postgraduate students to represent the UK & Ireland Chapter at the student event which runs alongside the SAMPE Europe Conference in Amiens, France, in September 2015.

At the Student Seminar, the students present their research to a panel of experts who will select the students to represent the Chapter at Amiens (all expenses paid).

Further information will be published shortly but in the meantime, contact Andrew Mills at Cranfield University for further details.

The SAMPE UK & Ireland Chapter Annual Seminar & SME Table Top Exhibition - Challenges for High Volume Composites Manufacturing, was held on the 26th February 2015, at the International Digital Laboratory, Warwick University and was sponsored by WMG and Cytec Industrial Materials

The motivation of the seminar was to address the intense needs to achieve environmental and economic targets for all industry sectors. The benefits of lightweight composite structures contribute to these targets, and are being brought to the marketplace. Investment is being focused on the high volume manufacture of high performance parts for the aerospace, automotive and energy generation sectors. Establishment of new processes and materials into a secure supply chain is essential.

The Final programme included presentations from key industry players as Penso, Coriolis Composites, The University of Nottingham, Bentley, Cytec, Kraus Maffei and AZL.

Annual Seminar and SME Table Top Exhibition
Advances in Materials, Design and Manufacturing for Advanced Composites

The 2014 1-day SAMPE UK & Ireland Chapter seminar addresses progress in design, materials and manufacturing technologies that are essential to secure the continued success of cost effective high performance composites.

Key innovators in all sectors of the advanced composites industry such as Axis Composites, Caterham, Cobham, Cytec, Exova, Frazer Nash, ELG, and WMG have been invited to make presentations. Sponsored by Formaplex Ltd, SAMPE UK & Ireland Chapter will host another Table-Top Exhibition for SMEs who offer innovative technologies and solutions. This is the 5th SME table top exhibition and previous events have been very successful and proved to be a great opportunity for delegates to gain information and network.

One Day Master Class
The Future of Composites Technology: Disruptive Innovation or Sustaining Innovation?

A Master Class was organised to present and discuss major opportunities, possible threats and the challenges arising in the composites industry due to disruptive innovation, that is, “quantum” changes in technology and markets – so called “game changers” - as opposed to more steady evolutionary changes. Nine presentations covering a wide range of subjects were given providing a most educational and enjoyable session. Registered attendees numbered 75 from both academia and industry.
